APC Chieftain in Taraba Resigns, Joins ADC Ahead of 2027

TARABA, Nigeria— A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, Barr. M.B. Mustapha, has resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a shift in the political landscape of Taraba North ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mustapha, described by associates as one of the founding figures of the APC from the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc, has picked the ADC nomination form to contest for the Taraba North Senatorial seat.

Political observers say his departure is significant, noting that the CPC wing formed one of the foundational blocs that helped build the APC into a national party. His move, they say, suggests growing realignment within the party’s original structures.

Mustapha’s decision to join the ADC comes as the party draws increasing attention from politicians with established grassroots networks in the North East.

Abdulmumini Muhammad, a close associate, said he remains a committed APC member but would stand with Mustapha and respect his political decision. Analysts note that the statement reflects shifting loyalties at the grassroots level, where personal trust and leadership influence are beginning to weigh more heavily than party affiliation.

The development is seen as part of a broader realignment taking shape ahead of 2027. For the ADC, Mustapha’s defection presents an opportunity to strengthen its presence in Taraba and position itself as an alternative platform in the region.
